STEEP A Teapot Show? How Steep of Him.The last thing many of Scott Bennett's contemporaries in clay thought -career potter, he freely admits to teasing them about their fondness of the vessel, repeatedly asking, "Why just the teapot? Aren't there other things to make?" But time has softened his stance. "Years later, I've come to associate and appreciate the teapot as a subject matter to ceramics not unlike the figure to drawing," he says. "And while I respect its function, the teapot now seems to me to represent more than its use." Hence, his upcoming show, cheekily titled "Steep: An Exhibit of Teapots from Ceramic Artists Working in the South," features Scott and 18 more (surprised and presumably gratified) artists from seven states. and Lynette Hesser, Jacksonville, AL; Virginia Scotchie, Columbia, SC; Paveen Chunhaswasdikul, Gadsden, Suanee, GA; Juan Granados, Lubbock, TX; M. L. Carter, Ruston, LA; Bradley Birkhimer, Manassas, VA; and Dori DeCamillis, Doug Balous, Janice Kluge and Adam Sterrett, Birmingham, AL.
