painting instructor jeanne alexander
Jeanne Alexander was raised in Baton Rouge, Louisana and moved to Birmingham in 1969. Jeanne graduated with a BA from Duke University, and an MBA from the University of Alabama Birmingham. She retired in July 2005 after 25 years as director of the University Computer Center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has been a Red Dot oil painting student for three years. "Without the ceremony of formal portraiture Jeanne captures in her oil paintings everyday people in everyday situations, smiling for the camera (or painter) - with a straightforward, unapologetic approach. Her prodigious rendering skill and painterly style lend dignity and substance to her subjects, while their commonplace snapshot settings indicate their all-American realness. Jeanne's proficiency lays in merging the look of a snapshot (a widespresd, familiar method of communication) with the age-old craft of painting, to capture the best of both mediums. This competent and thoughtful union gives Jeanne's subjects their definitive character, and shows the viewer the way Jeanne sees her sitters - authentic, unaffected, and much loved." ~ Dori DeCamillis, owner, Red Dot Gallery
